  This place doesn't have the best food in town, but it makes it up by having great service and a great atmosphere.  I've been going here for over 10 years and it's always been a great place to meet up with friends late at night.

  My son says he ate a grilled cheese from here and it almost made him throw up. From an adult perspective, the elevated price for the quality of food is disproportionately high. You're better off going to:
  Sam's cafe in Ceres where coffee is $1.99 and omelets are $9.99 and it's better quality food.
  Country Skillet in Ripon
  Omelet house Stockton where they have organic coffee and large portions.
  Hot rods in Ceres where they have 4 egg omelets
  Frank's place in Ripon
  Old Mill Modesto great wait staff
  Hula's in Escalon great family owned, will make anything you like, best price
  Bob's coffee shop in Hughson
  My garden cafe Modesto Ceres Ripon Turlock
  AJ's cafe in Turlock
  Cindy's in Oakdale

  Okay, so the place I prefer to go to when I'm in this area has an ambulance and fire truck parked out front so I decide that maybe I'll look for a different spot to grab a bowl of soup and pass some time.
  
  I know, how about Ridgways! I haven't been there in years!
  
  So I go in and the waitress glances up at me from behind the register and says, "just pick any place."
  
  So I do. Then I wait, and I wait, and I wait some more...
  
  20 minutes later, the waitress sees me among the six other customers in a sea of empty tables that were no doubt state of the art in 1972, and says, "oh my god, I am so fired" as she waddles to my little booth.
  
  Of course, I say nothing. What am I going to say? Should I say what was really on my mind? Something like, "no, you should have been 'so fired' about 42 years ago when you started working here after your third divorce."
  
  Of course not, I order my Portuguese Bean soup with stale saltine crackers and a diet coke. The soup was okay, I guess. Probably just a can of baked beans from Cisco. However, I do have to say that if I was Portuguese, I would probably be unhappy with the cultural appropriation and association my proud ethnic group with that particular "soup".
  
  Anyway, that's it. The waitress never returns. Was she fired? Of course not!
  
  It was interesting to leave and see some of the hardcore drinkers stumble out of the bar at 3:18 PM as they have been for decades at this particular establishment.
  
  Just one last quick note, if someone ever invites me to meet them for lunch in this part of Modesto, they better not say "meet me at Ridgeways!"

  First time coming here and probably the last. It was about 10 pm on a Friday and the lounge was popping and hardly anyone in the restaurant. My boyfriend and I were immediately greeted and seated with menus and we promptly ordered and received glasses of water. A few minutes pass and we order an appetizer sampler. Once it was brought out to us, we ordered a coffee and a root beer along with our entrees which included a bowl of soup. Well we got our soups about 10 minutes ahead of entrees but no drinks yet. Finally our food comes out and it was great (compliments to the chef). Still no drinks. The whole time we were trying to enjoy our food, no one checked in on us. Our waitress was literally arguing out loud with other employees. She checked in on another couple about 4 times the whole time we were there. My boyfriend asked for napkins (reminder -our first time to this establishment) and the waitress literally sucked her teeth, walked 5 feet away, gave us napkins and told my boyfriend "Usually people will get up and grab something that's 5 feet away". She had the audacity to try and charge us for the drinks we never got. She then made a snide remark about my outfit saying how she was distracted because it's something "girls wear on the strip", made me feel like a prostitute or something.
  
  Again, great food and I'd probably go back to check out the lounge but I'll be sure to not go while the waitress with the black pixie cut and diamond necklace is working.

  Well tonight I experienced something I have never experienced before. Monica and I went out to Ridgeways in modesto for dinner. I ordered the same thing I always get and that is the chicken fried steak and eggs. Well it was the worst thing I have ever tasted. I had atleast a cup of oil on my plate from the hash browns and the batter on the chicken fried steak wasn't even done all the way. So I told the waitress and she showed the owner (May) and the cook. The response I was told was they both said oh. The waitress never brought back my dinner plate and came back with the ticket. The waitress replied "the owner took a discount off of your bill for the food the way it was." When I looked at the bill the bill was $44.87, the discount she took off with a dollar fifty. I will never go back to ridgway's restaurant again. Sad I've been going there since I was 19 years old.
